Barnes and Noble Nook HD and Nook HD Plus
The Barnes and Noble Nook HD and Nook HD+ is a big step up from the older Nook Tablet and a staircase up from the Nook Color eReader. You know since Amazon released Kindle Fird HD Tablets, B&N just had to have their versions as well. Competition is good. :-)
Nook HD vs Nook HD+
The only real difference between the Nook HD and HD Plus model is screen size: 7" vs 9", respectively. Also the Nook HD comes in memory sizes of 8 GB and 16 GB; Nook HD+ in 16GB and 32 GB. A minor difference also is you have a choice in color for the HD model, Snow or Smoke whereas the HD+ model only comes in slate. But color should not be part of your ultimate decision making process when choosing between the two models. It's either you want a bigger screen or more memory or both or neither. There's also price factor too. The Nook HD is priced at $199 (8 GB) and $229 (16 GB). Nook HD+ is $269 (16 GB) and $299 (32 GB). So, for example, if you were considering a 16 GB model, it would cost you $40 more for the larger screen in the HD+ version.
Nook HD vs Nook Tablet
If you were trying to decide between the Nook HD and Nook Tablet, here are the main differences. The first and most obvious is the display quality. The Nook HD has a 1440 x 900 (243 ppi) resolution vs 1024 x 600 (169 ppi) in the Nook Tablet. The Nook HD has more RAM - 1.5GHz dual processor vs 1GHz which will make operations like browsing and video playback faster and smoother.. The battery life is similar: Nook HD 9-10 hours, Nook tablet 9-11.5 hours. The Nook HD actually weighs less at 11.1 oz vs 14.1 oz which will be noticeably lighter in the hand. Price again comes into play with the Nook HD priced at $199 (8 GB) and $229 (16 GB) and the Nook Tablet at $159 (8 GB) and $179 (16 GB). So it will cost you $40 more for the upgrade to the 8 GB Nook HD and $50 more for the 16 GB Nook HD.
